Lake Cei is located in the municipality of Villa Lagarina (Trento), at an altitude of 920m, in the mountain range of mount Stivo and mount Bondone. It is a barrier lake, created after a large landslide interrupted the flow of water from the small valley. Dating of the arboreal remains found on the lake floor suggests that the landslide took place around 1200.
The lake is surrounded by centuries-old beech and fir trees, and its banks feature willows, reeds, rushes and coloured water lilies, including the rare blue iris.
