Lake Tovel is an alpine lake in Tuenno (Trento) at an altitude of 1,178m in Val di Non, inside the Parco naturale Adamello-Brenta.
It is also known as lago degli Orsi (bear lake) because of the brown bears present in the valley and as lago Rosso (red lake) because of a unique natural phenomenon: its water would turn red in the summer with a spurt in growth of a certain weed. This natural spectacle, seen often until the mid 1970s, has sadly faded with time and has now completely disappeared. Today, the water is blue with various shades of green.
