Lake Levico was formed fairly recently after a flood barrier was established in the valley between colle di Tenna and Canzana to contain waters from the Vignola and Maggiore rivers.
It is the second largest lake in Trentino in terms of surface area (after nearby lake Caldonazzo); there is a lido and park on its shores and banks of reeds. Its unique long shape evokes that of a Northern fjord. It is the largest alpine lake in Europe in terms of depth and width.
