Lake Molveno, "precious pearl in the most precious treasure chest" as the writer Antonio Fogazzaro defined it, is an alpine lake of natural origin which formed about 4,000 years ago after a massive landslide.
The lake is the deepest in Trentino (123 m) and is located between the Brenta group (to the west) and the Gaza-Paganella ridge (east). The landscape that appears on leaving the last buildings of Molveno includes a view from directly above the lake, plus a pleasant panorama of the Dolomites and the Giudicarie Esteriori mountains.
