Where it was filmed 'Welcome Mr. President'

Giuseppe Garibaldi is the new President of Italy. No, not the famous historical character, symbol of the country’s unification, but his namesake, a librarian (the library is the office of the municipality) with uncertain job prospects and a member of the fishing club “Carpa diem” at Sauze di Cesana (Turin) in Val di Susa.

The Quirinal Palace, where the new President elect is reluctantly taken, was created using various locations which include the interiors of the Reggia di Venaria Reale (Turin): Peppino skates and establishes a shelter for the homeless in the Galleria Grande; in the Reggia’s chapel, the Church of Sant’Uberto, plots are hatched against him; in the winter garden “strong powers” are found. Turin provides more settings to serve as the Quirinale: the President receives congratulation letters in the Palazzo Reale, his bedroom and the drawing room for the bilateral meeting where an Italian flag pizza is served is Palazzo Carignano; the President’s office was created at the Palazzo della Regione Piemonte while the Accademia delle Scienze served as the Quirinal library. The Aiuola Balbo in Turin welcomes Janis after her resignation.

Such an unusual President could only have an equally unusual swearing-in ceremony: this takes place in the Quirinale courtyard, actually Palazzo Farnese in Rome, while the Quirinale Gardens, where the deputy secretary Janis Clementi gives the President lessons in protocol, are actually those of Villa Aurelia (also in Rome). The President walks the streets and squares of the capital: he goes into a pizzeria on Largo di Torre Argentina, is hailed by the crowd in Via Del Corso and in the Bioparco politicians meet a secret agent tasked with investigating his past. In the Palazzo del Collegio Romano (where the Ennio Quirino Visconti high school is located) he discovers that his son has done something illegal.

The wedding at the end takes place in the Church of the Madonna of the Snow, in the hamlet of Bousson in Cesana Torinese (Turin).
