The Torre di Mola stands in the seafaring neighbourhood of the same name in the town of Formia (LT). The imposing cylindrical tower, and a few other structures, are all that remains of the castle built at the end of the 1200s by King Charles II of Naples which was almost completely destroyed by bombing during WWII. The tower can be accessed through a 16th century portal and over the years, the merlons were adapted into embrasures for rifles and other battle equipment. There are three areas inside, some dating to the 1400s when the building passed from the Aragonese to the Caetani family and was transformed into a residence. The Torre di Mola today houses the Historical Archive of Formia and serves as a location for exhibitions, ceremonies and conferences.
