Along the Adriatic coast, halfway between Bari and Polignano a Mare, Mola is a lovely and bustling sea town. Via Veneto leads to the historic center, with its picturesque weaving alleyways, surrounded by city walls and towers, heading to the stately Angevin Castle, built centuries ago to counter pirates’ incursions. The Saint Nicholas Chiesa Matrice looks like an anthology of styles: built in 1300, it was later revised in 1500 according to typical Renaissance motifs. Not to be missed are the churches of Madonna di Loreto, Sant’Antonio and San Giovanni, this latter with a nearby monastery.
Among traditional holidays, the Madonna d’Altomare feast on July 1 is particularly picturesque, while the Octopus Feast is held on the last Sunday in July, and the Madonna Addolorata day is on the second Sunday in September.
