Where it was filmed 'I Hate Summer'

Aldo, Giovanni, Giacomo and their families all come from Milan, but pure chance has them starting the summer holidays at the same time, on the same island and – above all – in the same apartment. The holiday island does not actually exist, it is a combination of several beaches and art cities in Puglia: Bari Vecchia, the coastal borgo of Mola di Bari, Otranto whose Aragonese Castle can be seen in the scene where two carabinieri officers test the fireworks that mark the end of the summer season, and its seafront and the vegetation around the Alimini lakes, Santa Cesarea Terme, with its cliff soaring above the sea where a restaurant scene is set, the borgo of Ugento used for the fictitious holiday village, Ginosa and the olive groves in the countryside of San Pancrazio Salentino.

The soft white sand beach of Castellaneta Marina on the Taranto coast provided the location for the game of beach football, a citation of Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo’s first feature-length film Tre uomini e una gamba: in the film, it also passes for the beach near Follonica where Ludovico, Giacomo’s adolescent step-son, sneaks off to meet a girl. Returning from Follonica, the three men, by now friends, stop at Santa Marinella to see Massimo Ranieri in concert as Aldo is a huge fan: the concert was shot in Terlizzi (BA).
