Palazzo Alfieri in Asti is famous as Vittorio Alfieri’s birthplace. The Baroque style building is located in Corso Alfieri in the Cattedrale quarter and houses the Centro Nazionale Studi Alfieriani.
Acquired by the Alfieri family in 1736, the building was restructured by architect Benedetto Alfieri. The elegant courtyard preserves the characteristics of his design: a lively, rather flamboyant, architecture that appears to welcome the visitor with an embracing arm.
The imposing façade of the building, 50 metres in length, overlooks corso Alfieri. From the entrance one encounters an atrium and a trapezoid shaped courtyard where doors lead to the transversal wing of the building and to the garden. The private apartments are on the piano nobile as is the bedroom that belonged to Vittorio Alfieri, who lived here until he was five. The basement houses the kitchen, a pantry and four cellars.
