Alleghe lake (Belluno) was formed the night of 11 January 1771 when a landslide stopped the course of the Cordevole river which submerged a portion of the valley floor and some villages. Legend has it that on certain nights the tolling of submerged bells can be heard. The lake is surrounded by the majestic peaks of monte Civetta and the Marmolada massif which are reflected in its waters, blue on sunny days, grey-green on cloudy ones; it even freezes some times in the year.
There is a perimeter walk around the lake and panoramic points on the surrounding slopes; the lake offers rowboats and pedal boats, all in the company of swans and mallards.
The picturesque village of Alleghe offers every service, from accommodation to rentals.
