Lake Santa Croce is located in Alpago, the south-eastern area of the province of Belluno which borders with Treviso. It is the largest in the province and the second largest in the Veneto, after Garda.
Natural in origin and later artificially enlarged, it is a popular destination for windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing enthusiasts, thanks to the wind currents that pass through it constantly. It is located about 10-15 minutes from Belluno and is well served by communication routes (railway and motorway). There is no shortage of services on its banks and in the surrounding areas.
There is also a nature site, the Oasis of Sbarai, a vast wetland featuring different wild habitats linked to the variations in water level.
The lake was used as a location for the film Vajont and is considered an … Italian Loch Ness!
