Piazza Maggore is the main square in Este (Padua). Quadrangular in shape and porticoed in part, it gathers together many monuments and sites of historical, cultural and civic value, such as the Town Hall, Palazzo del Monte di Pietàand Palazzo Scaligero del Capitano.
Its human-scale size – which allows two passers-by to recognise each other from opposite sides of the square - corresponds to the definition of the ‘Italian piazza’ by architect Luis Kahntale.
