Near ponte Pietra, piazza Duomo is an organic part of the articulated system of small squares and alleys that characterise the urban layout of the historical centre of Verona.
The square is dominated by the imposing facade of the Cathedral – rectangular in shape, one part is dedicated to parking while the rest, including the parvise, is reserved for pedestrians. Buildings on the square include Palazzo del Canonicato, which houses the Chapter library of Verona Cathedral (Biblioteca Capitolare), the West’s oldest continuously functioning library and one of the most important ecclesiastical libraries in Europe.
