Designed in 1863 by architect Alessandro Antonelli, to whom it owes its name, and completed in 1889, the Mole Antonelliana is the symbol of Turin. Once the tallest brick building in Europe at 167.5m high, it was initially intended to be a synagogue before it was bought by the Municipality who wanted to create a monument to national unity. The panoramic lift goes up to the temple (at 85m) which offers a fantastic view of the city and the surrounding Alps.
The building houses the National Museum of Cinema. Its unique exhibition route, which unfolds upwards in a spiral and across various levels, surrounds the visitor with continuous and unexpected visual and aural stimuli, evoking the effect of watching a thrilling and emotive film. The visitor display routes feature spectacular presentation enhanced by set dressing, projections and light design.
