Vasanello (VT) is a borgo of Etruscan origins (later colonized by the Romans) located between Monte Cimino and the Tiber River. Attesting to its ancient origins are the numerous artificial caves, Etruscan tombs and ruins of ancient walls scattered around the rockface that surrounds it. Over the centuries, it was dominated by various noble families including the Orsini, Della Rovere and Colonna dynasties.
Architectural highlights include the imposing Orsini Castle, the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption built in the 11th century on the site of a Roman temple, the Church of San Salvatore, the Abbey of Madonna delle Grazie, the Church of San Lanno and the Civic Museum housed in the Palazzo Comunale.
