Today part of the Metropolitan city of Roma Capitale, Arsoli is immersed in the vegetation of the Monti Simbruini, on the edge of the Parco dei Monti Lucretili and the Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo.
Inhabited in antiquity first by the Equi tribe and then by the Romans, it belonged to the Monastery of Subiaco during the Middle Ages, becoming property of the Colonna family during the Renaissance and later of the Massimo family, whose name was given to the main architectural feature of note in the small town, the 10th century Castello Massimo. The borgo itself has conserved its medieval aspect with a picturesque historical centre and ancient, narrow streets that climb up to the castle.
