Rocca San Felice is a small village in Alta Irpinia located at the foot of a mountain. The historical centre, dominated by the castle on high, has kept its charm with alleyways paved with stone and low houses. Noteworthy are the Sanctuary of St. Felicita, built around the 4th century to replace the cult of the goddess Mefitis, and the Chiesa Madre di Santa Maria Maggiore.
Not far off is the Archaeological Area of Valle d'Ansanto, where a lake of sulphuric origin, Mefite, no deeper than 2m with a 40m perimeter, boils with the emission of underground gasses, mostly carbon dioxide and sulphuric acid. Given the fumes, the surrounding area has almost no fauna or flora, with the exception of a small shrub, Genista anxantica.
