Vairano Patenora (CE) extends along the valley of the River Volturno between the Matese mountains and the regional park of Roccamonfina-Foce Garigliano. Most probably dating back to a prehistoric settlement, the village has undergone various dominations over the centuries. The castle of Vairano, built in the Aragonese era on the remains of Norman and Swabian buildings, dominates the centre from on high.
