Masseria Montepaolo in Conversano (BA) is a 16th century country residence used for hunting by the Counts Acquaviva d’Aragona. It rises on a hill overlooking a sinkhole.
To one side is a rural church with frescoes from 1642. An open English lawn behind features a pool, winter garden and play area.
Beyond a small wood of Mediterranean undergrowth, the medieval Torre del Brigante rises on a hill and dominates a WWF protected nature reserve. A dovecote, once used to train messenger pigeons, can be found on the drystone courtyard wall.
