Masseria La Macchiola & Corti del Mito, dating to the 18th century, is nestled in the narrow alleys of the historical centre of Spongano, 5km from the picturesque port of Castro on the Adriatic coast of the Salento area.
Over time, this country house, which has always belonged to the Rizzelli family, has accrued a palmento (storehouse for grapes), a wheat store and a picturesque cellar dug out of the rock in its compound.
The masseria has two verdant courtyards and a deep portico whose whitewashed walls follow the tradition of typical Mediterranean architecture, while the original furniture and the farm tools from bygone times evoke the agricultural activities that took place over the centuries. The old cisterns and the ancient fireplace make the living room unique and pleasantly welcoming. The bright reception room with characteristic niches, deep arches and a large fireplace opens out onto the garden where the ruins of the ancient tower rise to create a picturesque frame for the swimming pool.
The indoor rooms, with star and barrel vaults in local pietra leccese (stone from Lecce) reflect the charm and peacefulness of the place.
