Laigueglia is a small fishing village on the riviera di Ponente (SV), in the baia del Sole.
The heart of Laigueglia is its historical centre, the “budello” (bowel), which extends along the coastline with narrow carruggi, small squares overlooking the sea, private houses in pink and lilac and the monumental Church of St. Matthew with two bell towers topped by cupolas in coloured tiles. Next to the church is the Oratory of St. Mary Magdalen, while a staircase from via Aurelia leads to the Chapel of Madonna delle Penne, built by fishermen in the 17th century on the rocks of the promontory of capo Mele sheer over the sea. Dating to 1698, Palazzo Musso-Piantelli which has retained its original interiors and external appearance is also very interesting.
These architectural and cultural characteristics make Laigueglia one of the “most beautiful borgos in Italy”.
