Villa Duchessa di Galliera is a noble Genoa residence located in the Voltri neighbourhood on the hills of Castellaro and Givi. It stands on a terrace that is accessed by two symmetrical staircases. The central body of the original building dates to the 18th century while the two wings were added later.
It is accessed through a main entrance, situated beneath a portico on the East wing. The interior of the villa features 18th century frescoes and Rococo decorations. The Shell room and winter garden at the back are particularly significant. There is also a private theatre dating to 1786 which is still used for performances.
Surrounded by a large Italian garden, a wood, a neo-romanesque castle with manmade waterfalls and caves, olive groves and an ancient sanctuary, the villa stands on a hill overlooking Voltri and the Ligurian Sea. The garden, created in the 18th century by the Brignole-Sale family, covers 32 hectares and has 18km of paths.
