When leaving Genoa for Riviera di Levante, the first village on the route is the fishing village of Bogliasco (GE). The residential centre is protected by a natural bay and dominated by mount Cordona (800m), offering a landscape that goes from beaches to steep cliffs.
In the Late Middle Ages, it was often a target for Saracen invasions as the fortification and some small buildings on the crest suggest. The castle, symbol of the village, dates to the 1500s and stands in a defensive position near the Marina. The village centre, which extends around the sand and pebble beach, has numerous places of interest including the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Grace and the Roman bridge near the mouth of the river Bogliasco. Numerous villas, some of significant worth dating to the 1800s, are dotted around the higher slopes amidst olive groves.
