Per lanciarsi dalle stelle, directed by Andrea Jublin based Chiara Parenti’s novel, tells the story of Sole (Federica Torchetti), whose serious anxiety makes it hard for her to make decisions including to leave the village in Puglia where she was born and grew up, Conversano.
The panoramic viewpoint opening the film, however, is actually the unmistakeable historical centre of Polignano a Mare, a town south of Bari perched on a rocky spur overlooking the sea. Conversano appears immediately afterwards, when Sole gets an ice-cream in piazza della Conciliazione and walks through the alleys of the centre on her way home.
A letter from her best friend convinces her to face her fears: she finds her first job at a restaurant in the little harbour of the hamlet of San Vito, just km from the centre of Polignano, in the shadow of the Abbey of San Vito Martire and the Saracen tower and manages to go on a boat trip with Massimo and share a first kiss.
In the cloister of the Monastery of St. Benedict in Conversano, Sole tries to overcome her fear of drawing in public by joining an art class. Fellow pupils include Dario with whom she spends time on the beach of Lama Monachile, also known as Cala Porto, the bay situated beneath the historical centre of Polignano a Mare.
