The Parco della Solfatara is a protected are that covers 1,082 hectares near Manziana, north of Rome. Its parkland follows the course of the river Mignone, from Sassone to the tuff rock with the borgo of Rota in the municipality of Tolfa.
The territory conserves numerous historical artefacts, the remains of Etruscan burial tombs, the ruins of the ancient settlement of Monterano, the convent and Church of San Bonaventura, while the environment features hilly places alternating with uneven tuff valleys, modelled over time by the erosive action of the Mignone and its tributaries. The park includes a solfatara, the tail end of volcanic activity in the Sabatini range, a small geyser, and a small birch wood on the edge. Near the site is lake Bracciano, also of volcanic origin.
