Castel San Pietro Romano is a tiny borgo in the Monti Prenestini area, approximately 30 minutes by car from Rome after the town of Palestrina. It requires a climb up a rocky little mountain which gradually reveals increasingly wide views on sunny and densely populated Valle Latina.
The village, which conserves part of the ancient Cyclopean masonry pre-Roman walls, is dominated by the Rocca Colonna above that was built in the late 10th century by Stefania of the Counts of Tuscolo, sister to Pope John XIII, and, in the 12th century, became property of the Colonna family.
