Where it was filmed 'The Italian Job'

The film opens with a sportscar driving along a viaduct near San Leonardo, hamlet of Saint-Rhemy-En-Bosses, Valle d’Aosta. Only minutes later, the car has crashed down the cliff.

Elsewhere, Charlie Croker is saying his farewells as he prepares to leave prison: the interiors are those of Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin which today houses a museum, while the exterior façade is in London. The plan to steal the FIAT bullion in Turin is organized in England.

The gang’s base in the capital city of Piedmont is Villa della Regina. Their plan involves controlling the system of traffic lights in the city to cause panic in the traffic of Turin. Cars snarl up in Piazza Castello and Piazza San Carlo while the gang attacks the armoured truck in Piazza Palazzo di Città, draped in Italian flags for an upcoming match featuring the national team. The truck is dragged into the Municipio where it is relieved of its cargo of ingots. While the police break down the entrance door, barred by the gang, the thieves drive out of a secondary exit, actually the entrance to Palazzo Lascaris, headquarters of the Consiglio Regionale, in Via Vittorio Alfieri about 700 metres from the Municipio. In the meantime, the three Mini Coopers laden with gold drive through the courtyard of Palazzo Lascaris, then hurtle down the stairs of Palazzo Madama in Piazza Castello. The steps end in the Galleria Subalpina, however, a historical building with many shops. The Minis drive through the arcades of Piazza Vittorio Veneto, popping out into Via Roma at the end by Piazza San Carlo, then along the San Federico Gallery, where a motorcycle policeman takes a tumble, and into an underpass outside the Porta Nuova train station. Shortly after, they drive down the stairs of the Church della Gran Madre di Dio, in the square of the same name, racing by a wedding procession, reach the roof of the Palavela (which gets its name from its sail-shaped outline) then they are on the roof-top track of the Lingotto, ex-FIAT building in Via Nizza, they cross an weir on the River Po near the Murazzi and finally leave the city behind by taking a sewage tunnel.

The three Minis drive onto a moving customized coach that has been waiting near Santena (TO), while the road leading to Colle San Bernardo and the border is actually in the hamlet of Palleusieux in Pré-Saint-Didier, Valle d’Aosta. The coach ends up in a precarious situation on the road in Colle del Nivolet, outside the borgo of Ceresole Reale (TO) between Valle dell’Orco (Piedmont) and Valsavarenche (Valle d’Aosta). The end credit sequence features a landscape with two mountain lakes which can be found in Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso.
