Where it was filmed 'Il Conte di Montecristo'

The series opens in Malta where the opening frames show the 18th century Baroque Chapel of St. Nicholas, located between Marsaskala and ?abbar. Edmond Dantes (Sam Claflin) decides to go inside for confession. This is where the story of his life begins.

Life seems to smile on the young Edmond Dantès, freshly appointed captain of the ship Pharaon, who is about to marry Mercedes, the love of his life. He is unaware of the enemies conspiring against him, who will accuse him of being a Bonapartist.

Malta provides several locations for the fictional Marseille: disembarking in the city after a tormented sea voyage, Dantès immediately announces his engagement with celebrations in Villa Bologna, in the village of Attard. The exterior of the museum of the Cathedral of Modina is featured. Much filming was also done at the Malta Film Studios with the support of the Malta Film Commission.

Part of the story is set in France, with locations in Paris and Senlis, while the Italian locations were in Rome, Turin and the surrounding areas.

In Rome, locations include Palazzo Farnese (the French Embassy in Italy) and the Anantara Palazzo Naiadi.

Turin provided various locations: Palazzo del Pozzo della Cisterna, piazza Carlo Alberto, the State Archives Court Section, Palazzo Carignano, National Museum of the Italian Risorgimento, Galleria Subalpina, Palazzo Civico, Teatro Regio, Teatro Carignano, National University Library, Palazzo Reale.

Outside Turin, the following provided locations: Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi (Nichelino), Villa Cimena (Castagneto Po), La Mandria natural park (Venaria Reale), Strambino Castle, Borgo Cornalese (Villastellone), San Maurizio Canavese.

Plot

Edmond Dantès, newly appointed captain of the sailing ship Pharaon, is about to marry Mercedes, the love of his life, when he is locked up in the dungeons of the Château d'If, unjustly accused of being a Bonapartist. Ten years later, Edmond has almost lost all hope when, due to a miscalculation, another prisoner, Abbot Faria, who has been digging an underground tunnel in an attempt to escape, bursts into his cell. The two become friends and, after sharing his vast knowledge with Edmond, the Abbot tells him the exact location of a hidden treasure that will be theirs when they are free. Unfortunately, however, the excavation of a new tunnel continues for five more years and Faria's death forces Edmond to escape alone when presented with an unexpected opportunity. Finally free, Edmond dedicates himself to one mission: to take revenge on those who plotted to destroy his life.
