Edmond Dantès, newly appointed captain of the sailing ship Pharaon, is about to marry Mercedes, the love of his life, when he is locked up in the dungeons of the Château d'If, unjustly accused of being a Bonapartist. Ten years later, Edmond has almost lost all hope when, due to a miscalculation, another prisoner, Abbot Faria, who has been digging an underground tunnel in an attempt to escape, bursts into his cell. The two become friends and, after sharing his vast knowledge with Edmond, the Abbot tells him the exact location of a hidden treasure that will be theirs when they are free. Unfortunately, however, the excavation of a new tunnel continues for five more years and Faria's death forces Edmond to escape alone when presented with an unexpected opportunity. Finally free, Edmond dedicates himself to one mission: to take revenge on those who plotted to destroy his life.
