The lawyer Vincenzo Malinconico, created by the Neapolitan writer Diego De Silva and played on TV by Massimiliano Gallo, brings the viewer into his motley collection of cases where he treats arguments as different as organized crime and love with the same refined irony.
The settings and protagonists of the series are Salerno, where Malinconico lives and works, with its surprising historical centre, and the Amalfi coast with its landscapes overlooking the coast.
The city of Salerno shows off her lungomare and the futuristic harbour designed by Zaha Hadid, the Cathedral cloister, villa comunale and Minerva park, the botanical garden in the heart of the historical centre. Featured in several scenes are Palazzo Sant’Agostino, overlooking lungomare Trieste, and Palazzo Genovese, an elegant building where Malinconico shares a studio with his accountant friend Espedito Lenza (Giovanni Ludeno) and a couple organizing cultural events. The judicial events mostly take place in the halls and corridors of Palazzo di Giustizia and Tribunale of Salerno.
While the historical centre’s labyrinth of alleys and crossroads leading onto ancient squares represents the interconnected and interrelated lives of total strangers, Malinconico escapes the paperwork and the greyness of the courts on the Coast where he attempts to live his dream with his beloved Alessandra Persiano (Denise Capezza): their romantic getaway in a cabriolet along the winding coastal road, hair blowing in the wind is a symbol of his renewed desire for liberty. The scenes shot on the Amalfi coast offer glimpses of the picturesque villages of Cetara, Ravello and Vietri sul Mare.
Other scenes have backgrounds featuring Cava de’ Tirreni, Nocera Inferiore and Nocera Superiore. The need to build other sets also brought the crew to Rome.
