Denise Tantucci, Cristiano Caccamo and Greta Ferro play the three main characters in Io e mio fratello, a comedy directed by Luca Lucini. The first two play Sofia and Mauro, siblings at odds: she left Calabria for a life in Milan, while he stayed to manage the family business; and then there’s Michela, Sofia’s great love, who is about to marry Mauro.
As the director confesses, Calabria is also a co-protagonist in the story: “The South is described in great detail: we see it through Sofia’s eyes, gradually everything becomes symbolically closer and then it becomes part of her perspective. At first, she is somewhat detached but gradually the things in the house, the grapes in the vineyard, the food, the family photos, the ornaments, everything becomes more ‘hers’. There is history in each object and that history is an important memory for her. As it is for Mauro and all the family, and this combination of these details will help the viewer understand Sofia’s emotional state.”
The main location for Io e mio fratello was Altomonte, a charming medieval village in the province of Cosenza, one of the borghi più belli d’Italia.
Locations also included San Nicola Arcella, a beachside destination on the Riviera dei Cedri, Civita, Cirò Marina, and Milan where Sofia has chosen to live. The shoot took six weeks in total.
