Lubriano is a small centre in the Tuscia area built on a tuff rock base which has yielded traces of Etruscan and Roman civilizations. It overlooks the Valle dei Calanchi facing Civita di Bagnoregio. Characterised by small medieval neighbourhoods knit together with alleyways and narrow cobbled streets joined at intervals with steps in hewn stone, its main attractions include: the fountain known as “La Punciotta” in the centre of piazza San Giovanni Battistafacing the Baroque Church dedicated to the same saint; the Church of the Madonna del Poggio, near the historical centre of Lubriano; and Palazzo Monaldeschi, a former convent transformed into a little castle by the Monaldeschi family of Orvieto. The square outside the church offers a wide view over the countryside of the province of Viterbo including the village of Lubriano, the Valle dei Calanchi with Civita di Bagnoregio and, in the distance, lake Bolsena.
