Lorica, known for its beauty as the “pearl of Sila”, is a tourist destination in the Sila Grande mountain range, standing at an altitude of 1,315m, in the valley that surrounds lake Arvo. Its territory, setting for the Sila National Park, stretches across two municipalities, San Giovanni in Fiore and Casali del Manco, in the province of Cosenza.
The ski resort is positioned 4km from the residential centre in the vallata del Cavaliere; the highest stands at 1,877 on a slope of mount Botte Donato, measuring 2.206 km. There are three slopes on the summit: one leading back to the loading station and the others heading down the “valle dell'Inferno”.
One of the main attractions in the area is lake Arvo, a large artificial reservoir created when an earthen dam was built in a prevalently swampy area. Thanks to its 70/80 million cubic metre capacity, the lake is now used by pedaloes, canoes and windsurfers and traversed by an electric boat powered by solar panels.
