Termoli (CB) is the most populous city on the Molise Coast. It is characterised by a promontory where the ancient coastal residential centre rises, bounded by a wall that drops steeply to the Adriatic sea. The Borgo Antico is divided from the rest of the city by the containing walls and the Castle of Frederick II of Swabia.
On sunny days, given its strategic position on the sea, it is possible to see the Tremiti Islands (FG), to the South, the Gargano Promontory, and to the North, the Gulf of Vasto and the peaks of the Majella range in Abruzzo. Like most of the Adriatic coast, there are Trabucchi, wooden structures with a net for fishing, in Termoli. In addition to the fishing industry, there are many companies in the industrial area that was developed in the 1970s.
Important events include the Festival with procession to the sea of patron saint San Basso (3 August) and the Burning of the Castle (15 August), a historical re-enactment of the Ottoman attack of 1566.
