Located on the left bank of the River Po, Parco del Valentino occupies an area of 500,000m2. It was opened to the public in 1856 and redesigned in 1864 with avenues, flowerbeds, fountains, wooded areas and artificial hills.
The section leading to the monumental Arco dell’Artigliere at the end of corso Vittorio Emanuele II is configured as a great grassy extension sloping down to the River Po, with the fontana luminosa in the centre.
The buildings dotting the park include: the Rationalist pavilion Danze Pagoda; the exhibition building of the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti and the building called Le Glicini. Heading southwards, near the Palazzo della Moda, are Torino Esposizioni, the Fountain of the Months, rose gardens and the stone garden.
The southernmost sector is dominated by the medieval borgo and complex of Castle Valentino, a historic building in Turin that houses the Polytechnic’s Faculty of Architecture.
