Franco Nero directs himself as Emanuele in L'uomo che disegnò Dio: an elderly artist, solitary and blind, who teaches charcoal portraiture at night school. He has an unusual talent: despite his blindness, he can draw anyone simply by hearing their voice. The only people aware of his talent are his social worker Pola (Stefania Rocca) and his students.
Emanuele’s life is upended when two African immigrants, Maria (Wehazit Efrem Abrham) and her daughter Iaia (Isabel Ciammaglichella), move in with him, taking care of him in exchange for their lodging. A video filmed by Iaia goes viral online, turning a spotlight on Emanuele’s talent. He is noticed by “Talent Circus”, a TV show that features people with extraordinary gifts, but his new life brings legal suits and accusations.
The film is entirely set in Turin, and features famous places like Parco del Valentino and galleria Umberto I.
Various sets were built inside the 19th century building known as ex IRV - Istituto di riposo per la vecchiaia, in corso Unione Sovietica, including Emanuele’s house, the police station, prison, school and even an internet café.
The big top of the “Talent Circus Show” was set up in Parco della Pellerina, also known as Parco Carrara, in the west of the city.

Elderly Emanuele is an artist, solitary and blind he can draw anyone simply by hearing their voice. The only people who know of this talent are his social worker Pola and the students at night school where he teaches charcoal portraiture. His life is upended when two African immigrants – Maria a widow who has come to Italy for a better future, and her daughter Iaia – move in with him, taking care of him in exchange for lodging.
