This story of unbreakable brotherly love written by Damiano and Fabio D'Innocenzo is the directorial debut of Trash Secco, pseudonym of Francesco Pividori. The main characters are two rough sleepers: silent Romeo (Gabriele Silli) and boisterous Callisto (Romano Talevi).
The two spend their time in a tiny world of their own, outside time, on the banks of the river Tiber, in a corner of Isola Tiberina, only venturing out to beg in "upstairs Rome", in particular in the neighbourhood of Trastevere, in via della Scala, piazza San Cosimato, piazza Trilussa and ponte Sisto.
Rome is darkly shrouded, featuring colours that evoke decay, prevalently acrid yellow and green. The characters, destined to an existential misery for which they see no alternative, spend their days of desperation together; when Romeo falls ill with an incurable disease, Callisto takes care of him applying invented treatments in a desperate attempt to make his final days easier.
The four-week shoot saw the fictional story melding with the life of the real rough sleepers living in the area, with whom the crew established a relationship.
