Drugs and crime are the reflections of a story that is about something else: a melancholic father, a brother who fights at school, a mother defeated by love and a beautiful girl, a happy ending and a happy death, a palm tree falling on a glass world. It is in the cracks of everyday life that Enea and Valentino’s adventure slowly unfolds. An adventure that may appear criminal to others, but to them is, and will always be, above all about friendship and love.
This adventure is set in Northern Rome, populated by rich dysfunctional families and gangsters who frequent exclusive sports clubs and trendy clubs – the Tevere Remo Circolo sportivo, the Affari Esteri Circolo sportivo, renowned restaurants in the city centre (“La Pergola), and trendy night-life venues (The Sanctuary) – where cocaine flows freely. Seen from above, the river Tiber flows inexorably, the symbol of the city, with its bridges, in particular the Duca d'Aosta bridge which provides a spectacular entranceway to the Foro Italico.
Many places in Rome feature in the events of the characters: the Japan Promenade in Eur; Villa Ada Savoia and Villa Borghese, in particular Casina Valadier and the Pincio; the WE GIL building in Trastevere and sumptuous Villa Aurelia. Locations also included the Church of the Santissima Trinità dei Monti and the iconic square of the same name for a wedding scene.
Pietro Castellitto, director and star of Enea, also shot scenes in the studio at Cinecittà: the long flight sequences were shot at Theater 18 – where a smart stage with LED wall for virtual filming is one of the largest in Europe – including the scene where the tourist plane flown by Valentino (Giorgio Quarzo Guarascio) crashes into the Eurosky skyscraper in the EUR neighbourhood. This event will change the life of the protagonist in the same way that the terribly real event symbolically evoked here (the Twin Towers attack on September 11, 2001) forever changed the world as we knew it, making him, like us, more vulnerable.

Enea chases the myth that his name embodies: it makes him feel alive in a dead and decadent era. He does everything with Valentino, a newly fledged pilot. Beyond the restriction of rules, over on the other side of morality is a sea full of humanity and symbols to discover. Enea and Valentino will fly over it, with the most extreme consequences.
