The Piccole Dolomiti are a mountain group in the Vicentine Alps, on the border of the provinces of Vicenza, Trento and Verona. Their name, echoing that of the famous Dolomites, refers to the massive presence of dolomite, a sedimentary carbonate rock. The range is generally considered to include the massiccio del Pasubio and the Sengio Alto, Carega and Tre Croci groups.
The Piccole Dolomiti extend for about 30km in an arch, dominating a green valley whose lush vegetation has given the town of Recoaro Terme the nickname of “Emerald Valley”.
The landscape is a meeting place for opposing geometry: vertical dolomitic peaks contrasting with the gentle meadows of Regional Nature Park of Lessinia, Sette Comuni and the vast plain.
Beloved by excursionists, the Piccole Dolomiti offer places of historical interest alongside the natural landscapes, such as the strada delle 52 gallerie, a donkey path that leads to mount Pasubio, built during WWI. On the slopes of the same mountain is forte Pozzacchio whose underground tunnels played a strategic role during the war.
