Piedone – Uno sbirro a Napoli, a 4-episode tv series directed by Alessio Maria Federici, stars Salvatore Esposito as police inspector Vincenzo Palmieri, the spiritual heir of Commissioner Rizzo who was immortalized by Bud Spencer in Piedone Lo Sbirro (1973). Silvia D’Amico is Commissioner Sonia Ascarelli, head of the police detachment at the port of Naples, and Fabio Balsamo is Deputy Inspector Michele Noviello.
Palmieri is a police inspector who comes from the streets and belongs to the streets - just like his mentor, Inspector Rizzo, from whom he learned everything. On the force, they accuse him of being lax with the rules, undisciplined, grumpy: all true, but he makes up for it with talent. He believes in justice but in his own way, and he thinks that the official law is not enough to get it.
At the heart of his work is a Naples rich in humanity: from the alleys of the historic centre, Spaccanapoli, rione Sanità, the quartieri Spagnoli to the port, San Vincenzo pier, and seafront. A city that adapts to the times, even "surrendering" to the new era of tourism making a fine show of itself on social media.
The port of Naples and the Casa del Portuale, location for the police station, are the main setting.
Other locations include: Università Parthenope; city hall; "Cardinale Ascalesi" hospital, and the Municipality of Sant'Antimo.
"We are trying to show the Naples besieged by tourism, the Naples of souvenirs and Instagram, of hit-and-run entertainment in the clubs of Chiaia and omnipresent film sets, a city that adapts its traditional art of making-do for the era of social media and Airbnb. All this through the eyes of a protagonist whose stubbornness, melancholy, is very Neapolitan" explain the writers.

Returning to Naples for Vincenzo Palmieri means settling things from his past. A student of the popular Commissioner Rizzo, known as “Piedone”, he has to gain the trust of his new team and prove that his unconventional methods are the best approach for solving cases in such a complex city. Commissioner Sonia Ascarelli, a determined policewoman who is very unlike him, will give him a hard time. While tackling investigations, with no shortage of twists and smiles, Vincenzo tries to make peace with his ghosts in a city that always has something to teach.
