Princess Letizia lives with her father and chamberlain in a fairytale castle in the Loire Valley, in France: the interior shots were instead taken at various estates in Bolzano, Merano and Rome.

Together with her chamberlain, she puts together a ploy to attract the attention of magazines and newspapers, to boost funding for her own charity work.

The unwitting victim is Antonio, a Neapolitan man who makes ends meet by scrounging off of others in the district of Stella operating in the streets around Piazzetta Stella), in the historic centre of Naples: this is one of the city’s most ancient districts.

After enticing him to her kingdom with a ruse, the princess does everything she can to get herself noticed by him: one of the meeting places is the Passeggiata d’Inverno in Merano.
Once they become acquainted, Antonio moves into the castle, to learn how to attend court. In the meantime, we seem him roaming around the gardens of Rubein Castle in Meranowhich dates back to the 12th century.

One of the elite events that the clumsy Antonio attends with the princess is a sleep-inducing chamber music concert, held at the Teatro Civico Puccini in Merano.

Things don’t go exactly to plan and the princess starts falling in love with the commoner when she hears him reciting Prévert from her bedroom balcony: the balcony was reconstructed in a studio in Rome.

In the closing scene, Antonio, Letizia and their friends crash a wedding party at Castel dell’Ovo, in Naples.
