In “Il guappo” Totò is a clown whose life is made hell by Don Carmine Javarone, the guappo (boss) of the Sanità district who has moved into his home and humiliating his entire family. The segment is set in the alleys of the heart of Naples, in particular piazza Sanità overlooked by the church of that name.
In “Pizza a credito”, Sophia Loren is a voluptuous pizzaiola who runs a takeaway pizzeria in the Materdei district, in salita Porteria San Raffaele.
“Il funeralino” focusses on the funeral procession of a child that passes through the rione Sanità accompanied on his last journey by his mother.
The director Vittorio De Sica plays the role of count Prospero, a nobleman with a gambling addiction in “I giocatori”. The recurring location of the episode is piazza del Gesù Nuovo.
In “Teresa” Silvana Mangano plays a prostitute from Castelli Romani who marries one of her suitors. galleria Umberto I and Basilica of San Francesco di Paola in piazza Plebiscito, where the wedding is celebrated, are clearly seen.
