A deranged group of thieves, led by Leonardo Notarbartolo, manage to bypass the cutting-edge security system of the Antwerp Diamond Centre and steal millions of dollars’ worth of precious stones.
Directed by Gianluca Maria Tavarelli, Everybody Loves Diamonds is an 8-episode heist series with comedy twists inspired by the true story of the 2003 "Antwerp coup", defined by the international media as "the largest diamond theft in the world".
The plot follows a deranged group of thieves led by Leonardo Notarbartolo (Kim Rossi Stuart), whose ingenious plan manages to circumvent the cutting-edge security system of the Antwerp Diamond Centre, believed to be the safest vault in the world, and steal millions of dollars’ worth of precious stones. In reality, Notarbartolo's ingenious plan went up in smoke when the group was "localized" by clues deriving from rubbish discarded during their escape.
The series features a cast of national and international faces, including Anna Foglietta, Gian Marco Tognazzi, Carlotta Antonelli and Leonardo Lidi, and Rupert Everett and Malcolm McDowell in the role of Kahn.
The real locations of the story were used in filming: Antwerp and the Sant Vincent casino in Valle d'Aosta, and the centre of Turin. The city locations included the Le Nuove prison, Palazzo Cisterna, the Luigi Einaudi Campus, via Mercanti, via Perugia, via Aosta and via Barbaroux, some premises on the Murazzi, Turin Caselle Airport, Bussoleno and Stupinigi.
