The pole vaulting event takes place in a bit of an ambiguous location: it should be the Tiber, with Castel Sant’Angelo in the background, but it looks more like Castel dell’Ovo in Naples. We get a canonical image of Italy, which is to some extent rather stereotypical, as demonstrated by the balancing game in which the player must take care not to drop any pizzas, as the track goes through a tree-lined park and into Piazza dei Miracoli.

A sports game based on Alternative World Games by Gremlin Interactive. Known in the West as Snoopy’s Silly Sports Spectacular!, the Japanese version of the game stars Donald Duck as the main character. In the Western version, the developers opted instead for Snoopy, made famous by the Peanuts comic strip. The game presents the player with a number of sporting events, including a sack race, pole vault, boot throwing and pizza balancing (!).
