Gran Turismo 2 introduced a city circuit set in the Eternal City for the first time in the series. The graphics are still far from being comparable to real life, but the Colosseum is clearly identifiable. Technological improvements can be seen starting from Gran Turismo 3, an instalment that features the same circuit (the track changes in Gran Turismo 5) which winds from Viale delle Terme di Caracalla towards the Colosseum, continuing along Largo Corrado Ricci and then coming back along Via Claudia, Via della Navicella and into Piazza di Porta Metronia. The saga offers progressively more lifelike circuits resembling real cities.

The second and third instalments in the successful racing game series created by Kazunori Yamauchi. The driving simulator rose to fame for the large range of circuits (both real and fictitious) and vehicles available to the player. Gran Turismo 2 and Gran Turismo 3 share the same track set in Italy, the only thing that’s different is the platform and the technological leap forwards in the latter.
