A gang of problematic adolescents finds out that they have immense powers. Powers that can change their lives, forcing them to challenge their limits, desires and responsibilities, powers which become metaphors for the difficulties and opportunities that adolescents face and the formidable potential they hold.
Noi siamo leggenda is a fantasy teen drama about a group of adolescents in Rome who discover they possess superpowers. Powers that can change their lives, forcing them to challenge their limits, desires and responsibilities. They don’t have grand missions, there is no universe to save or evil genius to outwit. The series in 12 episodes is, instead, a story about growth which focusses on the main characters whose superpowers become metaphors for the difficulties and opportunities that they, as adolescents, face and the formidable potential they hold. They discover, to their cost, that there is no power to help them “grow up” and that every action has a consequence.
Directed by Carmine Elia, created by Valerio D’Annunzio and Michelangelo La Neve, the series is a Rai Fiction and Fabula Pictures coproduction in collaboration with Prime Video. The cast includes Emanuele Di Stefano, Claudia Pandolfi, Antonia Liskova, Nicolas Maupas, Giacomo Giorgio, Beatrice Vendramin, Giulio Pranno, Valentina Romani, Milo Roussel, Sofya Gershevich, Margherita Aresti, Giulia Lin, Lino Guanciale.
Rome, the suburbs for the most part, is the setting for events: most of the characters live in huge working-class housing complexes, dominated by grey cement, especially the cylindrical towers of the complex in Vigne Nuove to the north of the city. This is not the first time that the area has hosted filming. Via Giovanni Conti once featured the "palo della morte", a power pylon where Carlo Verdone would meet with Renato Scarpa in Un sacco bello (locations). The kids spend their time amidst the buildings of Tiburtino III which features an enormous mural of Anna Magnani by Lucamaleonte.
The view changes once the action moves to the centre of the city: piazza di Spagna and via Condotti are unmistakeable in the early scenes of Ep.1; the Colosseum, Forum and Castel Sant'Angelo, where one of the young superheroes, Jean (Nicolas Maupas), squares up to a gang trying to mug him. It also features the surprising quartiere Coppedè, located between piazza Buenos Aires and via Tagliamento, where the young man lives with his wealthy family. Accessed through a wide arch that links two buildings with a huge central hanging lantern, the area comprises 18 residential buildings and 27 buildings and features a fantastic range of architectural styles, including liberty, art déco, Greek, Gothic, Broque and even medieval.
The nearby town of Albano provided the hospital that links the lives of many of the characters while other mysterious scenes were shot in underground Rieti.
