A large part of the film is set in the Monti neighbourhood of Rome. Irene Ravelli (Barbara Bobulova) is a talented business woman who often acts without too many scruples. Having obtained the release of the ancient family palace, Palazzo Rivaldi in via del Colosseo, where she intends to develop into small apartments, Irene discovers that her mother Adriana’s room has been left intact as if the woman still lived there despite her mysterious death thirty years before.
Irene first meets Benny a little thief who will change her life, outside the Church of Santa Maria ad Nives. In the Church of San Lorenzo in Fonte in via Urbana 50, she converses with Father Carras, who will introduce her to a world she has never known before. The bookshop where Benny goes one evening while walking with Irene is in via dei Serpenti, while the steps where she takes food to a homeless young man are in via degli Ibernesi.
Palazzo del Commendatore in via del Banco di Santo Spirito where Father Carras takes Irene to a meeting with the bishop is not far off on the other side of the River Tiber, while Irene undresses in the grip of a mystic crisis at Anagnina station, the last stop on Rome’s Metro Line A.
