After three seasons (2007, 2008, 2010) and a film (2011), the satirical series Boris returns to show what happens on the set of a film or a TV series, in its own inimitable style. Season 4, written and directed by Giacomo Ciarrapico and Luca Vendruscolo (with an homage to the late, lamented Mattia Torre), stars the irreverent, motley crew for a new adventure shot in 9 weeks in Rome, mostly at Cinecittà studios.
While seasons 1 to 3 were set backstage on the fictional series Gli occhi del cuore, season 4 focuses on the return of all the original characters to the new set, that of The Life of Jesus. The fifty-something Stanis La Rochelle (Pietro Sermonti) who created the series, “based on his idea”, not only stars as Jesus, the main character – whose death famously took place when he was 33 – but also produces it through his SNIP (So Not Italian Production) company, founded with his wife and long-running co-star in the fictional Gli occhi del cuore, Corinna (Carolina Crescentini). The crew helmed by René Ferretti (Francesco Pannofino) has to handle a different world, one where social media, influencers and streaming platforms are now in control. The Life of Jesus project has attracted the attention of the most influential platform in Europe where Alessandro (Tiberi), once an intern on the set of Gli occhi del cuore, has recently started working. The presentation of the platform at the La Feltrinelli store on via Appia Nuova in Rome in episode 1 reintroduces the cast.
Cinecittà studios plays herself, featuring both newly built and permanent sets: in the trailer, René, wandering past the imposing sets of the long-established studios, notes the sign “Ferretti dreams Fellini” and believes for a moment that the platform is honouring him. Diego Lopez (Antonio Catania) – now retired from the Network and active as a producer with his company QQQ (Quality, Quality, Quality) – reveals the secret: “Dante Ferretti! Fellini’s production designer, the Oscar winner”.
