In their third feature-length film, the D’Innocenzo brothers return once again to the provinces for a thriller that focuses on the character of dentist Massimo Sisti, played by Elio Germano, a wealthy, well-established professional with a happy family life, a loving wife and two daughters he adores.
The Latina in the title references the film’s setting: the main location is a in the via Isonzo neighbourhood of Latina. Set amidst the quiet of the Pontine countryside, it is something of a white elephant which, as the story proceeds, becomes a claustrophobic labyrinth where shadow prevails over light, reflected or blurred faces replace clarity, tight close-ups are favoured over wide shots, almost spelling out the confusion in the main character’s mind. The story begins with an unsettling discovery made in the basement on a day just like any other.
The exteriors are anonymous, the production shot in streets in Ardea – via Bergamo and near tor San Lorenzo (between via dei Colli Marini and the Salzare, including via del Radiofaro, via Monti di Santa Lucia, via dei Girasoli) – and the area around Sabaudia.
Some shots also took place inside the Cinecittà Studios.
