Where it was filmed 'The two Popes'

Set and shot in Rome, Argentina and Uruguay. The interiors of the Vatican were provided by the Reggia di Caserta (introduced in the early scenes by the Sala di Marte) and the Globe Hall of Palazzo Farnese at Caprarola: here the cardinals meet before the conclave and Ratzinger announces his resignation. The grand staircase of the Reggia, designed by Luigi Vanvitelli, hosts the Cardinals as they process towards the Sistine Chapel which was built at Cinecittà Studios. After a first, rather cold, meeting between the future Pope Ratzinger and Cardinal Bergoglio shortly before the former’s election to the Papal Throne, the men meet again in the Pope’s summer residence at Castel Gandolfo whose gardens are those of Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola. Locations also included Palazzo Farnese in Rome, seat of the French Embassy: in the palace courtyard, the pope and future pope say goodbye before Bergoglio returns to Argentina. A short while later, Ratzinger resigns from the papacy and Bergoglio is elected to succeed him as Pope Francis.
