Also recognisable are the Church of San Giovanni in Bragora and the Grand Canal of Venice and Rome’s Cestia Pyramid, while the area of Villa Spada is inspired by the Boboli Gardens in Florence. Although the representation of these places and the atmosphere evoke the dark fantasy of Gothic horror, Midnight Caravan focusses on the narrative, while the choose- your-own-adventure aspect, with its background of human relationships and intrigues, never crosses into horror.

Midnight Caravan is a visual novel set in 19th century Italy. The player is free to choose his own adventure, driving the story with his choices. The main character is a man on the run, forced to join a caravan, who travels the peninsula getting caught up in a series of political intrigues, dark events and double-crosses. The caravan that providing the game’s title travels from Rome to Venice (passing through Florence) on a journey thick with danger, choices and memorable characters: gamblers, prostitutes, assassins and thieves – a dark, scary environment that creates a menacing, unsettling story where the player is called upon to choose between his own personal interests or the safety of those he meets on the road.
